In a new Teen Wolf behind-the-scnes video, we get to see the actors behind young Derek and young Peter talk about their roles.

The video begins with Michael Fjordbak, who plays a younger version of Peter, saying, “I think the value of 308 to fans is seeing a slightly different version of the characters they’re familiar with.”

Season 3, episode 8 was, of course, the highly anticipated flashback episode “Visionary.” In it, we saw younger versions of both Peter and Derek, and learned not only why Derek is the way he is, but also why he had blue eyes prior to becoming the Alpha.

Ian Nelson, who plays the younger version of Derek, describes his character by saying, “Derek is just a confident, popular, kind of cocky basketball player in high school.” He goes on to explain that Derek has “to make some decisions that make him, in the end, grow up a little too fast.”

Ian Bohen, who plays the adult version of Peter, feels that it’s important for the audience to know more about Peter, so they can understand what he’s gone through and why he is the way he is. “He’s clearly got some issues that he’s working through,” Bohen says, laughing.

Interestingly, Bohen goes on to say that Peter has been an outsider his whole life, which may explain why he acts the way that he does. But is this enough of a reason for his actions to make the audience sympathize with him?

Fjordbak explains this concept further, saying, “He’s always the guy that, when he sees something beautiful, he has to scratch it, he has to mess with it.” This is clearly something that has not gone away with time, and it’ll be interesting to see, as we wrap up this first half of Teen Wolf season 3, if Peter will continue altering circumstances in his favor.

“What changes Derek the most is that he really loves this girl, and in the end he ends up hurting this girl,” Nelson says. “I always saw it as his way of how he is now, he doesn’t want to give himself the power to do that again.” This begs the question: What does this mean for the future of Jennifer and Derek?
