Teen Wolf season 5, episode 15, “Amplification,” just finished airing, which saw Scott and the rest of the pack attempt to rescue Lydia.

This episode of Teen Wolf opened with a killer car chase scene as everyone tried to catch up with The Beast. Stiles, Scott, and Sheriff Stilinski cornered it in the hospital, where they also found Parrish trying to battle it. The Beast escapes, but Scott notices its footprints turn from being made by paws to being made by sneakers. We knew from the outset that someone was inside The Beast, but this confirms it. We’re wondering if those show prints could be any indication of who The Beast actually is. It seems like a long shot.

Deaton fills Scott in on Valack, who used to be the Chief Medical Officer at Eichen House. While he was there, he did a lot of experiments on supernatural creatures, mostly by drilling holes in their heads. This would temporarily heighten their powers, but it couldn’t be contained and it always led to death. Those pictures were pretty gruesome, and Valack didn’t seem to be prejudice against whose head he cut open.

Lydia’s powers were already advanced, and Deaton says this will only cause a bigger problem. He also says it’ll cause her to hear everyone’s deaths all at once, which will kill her. Even worse? Her own dying scream could kill everyone around her.

The sheriff can’t do anything legally, so he nudges Stiles into coming up with his own plan, which Stiles does spectacularly. There are a lot of moving parts to this plan, but a great heist montage gives us some wonderful moments from the whole pack. The balance of suspense and hilarity is a common theme throughout this entire episode, much to its benefit.

Meanwhile, Valack seems up to no good. He pulls a fourth Dread Doctor’s mask from a cabinet and puts it on one of the orderlies. Is he creating a new one, or is he trying to track the existing ones down like Malia tracked her mother with the torture goggles?

Another player in this game is Theo, who learns what Scott and his friends are up to. He wants to help, if only because it’ll help him survive a little longer. Scott and Stiles don’t take him up on his offer, thank God. If they trusted him after last week, they’d have no one to blame but themselves.

At the same time, Sheriff Stilinski confronts Natalie about what’s going on in Eichen House. It’s clear now that she knows a lot more about what is going on in Beacon Hills than we initially thought. But does her revelation mean she’s supernatural, too? The Banshee powers don’t come from her side of the family, but perhaps she has other abilities.

At Eichen House, everyone knows their part. Malia’s “man on the inside” runs nude through the entryway, allowing her and Kira into the electrical room where Kira will cause a brownout. Parrish gets Stiles, Liam, and Scott inside, and they make their way to the closed unit. Hilariously, they get stopped by something as simple as a lock and key. With a few punches to Liam’s face, Scott makes his Beta angry enough that they can both take down the door.

Stiles gets to Lydia, but she warns him to leave. If he doesn’t, they’ll all die. Stiles hides around the corner as Valack visits her once more. Before the good doctor can do anything else to her, Theo and his pack of chimeras show up, followed closely by Parrish. It seems to be exactly what Theo wanted.

Eichen House goes into lock down, trapping them all inside, and the guards come for Scott and Liam, who can’t get through the mountain ash barrier. Right when we think everything is about to go horribly wrong for the pack, Scott sees Liam in trouble and his power grows within him. He pushes the guards off and calls to the pack, who all respond to his howl.

We’ll get the second half of this rescue next week on episode 16, “Lie Ability,” which airs February 9 on MTV at 9:00 p.m. ET.
