Teen Wolf season 5, episode 14, “The Sword and the Spirit,” just finished airing, and this episode worked to get Malia back into Scott’s pack.

Against her better judgment, Malia allows Theo to drug her in order to bring her to the Dread Doctors’ lair. When she comes to, she’s strapped down, but Theo assures her it’s for her own safety. For once, it doesn’t seem like he’s lying. He puts some horrible torture device goggles on her that allows her to tap into the Desert Wolf’s frequency. Her mother is in Beacon Hills.

Malia and Braeden prepare to go after the Desert Wolf, but Braeden is none too happy about bringing Theo along. Worse than Theo, though, is the Desert Wolf. Braeden explains that she’s lost some of her power, but she’s still a perfect shot.

When they enter the building where the Desert Wolf is hiding, Theo knocks out Braeden and shoots Malia in the stomach. In return, the Desert Wolf gives Theo the glowing claws of Belasko. It seems Malia’s mother wants to kill her daughter because she’s the reason why the Desert Wolf is without power, but Deaton tells her the only way she’ll get her abilities back is if she kills Malia on a full moon.

The Desert Wolf and Malia fight, but it’s halted when the Beast shows up and attacks Deaton. Malia gives up her chance to kill her mother in order to save Deaton, a fact which is not lost on Scott later when everyone reunites.

Meanwhile, Theo’s chimeras have tracked down Deucalion, who explains the dark druid’s power to heal his eyesight was only temporary. So while Theo needs Deucalion’s help with The Beast, the Demon Wolf wants his revenge on Scott.

Elsewhere in the episode, we get story time with Gerard, who explains that a simple spear in the hands of a young woman was the only thing that could take down The Beast. Meredith also continues to teach Lydia how to use her powers, to control her voice and make it a bullet. Lydia knows Malia is in trouble, and that’s what finally gets her to snap out of it.

By the end of the episode, everyone becomes aware that Parrish is a hellhound, that he must fight The Beast, and that if he doesn’t, they could all die. Scott brings Liam back into the pack, despite Liam’s insistence that he needs to save Scott’s life in order to pay him back for what he did, and they all gather around with plans to break Lydia out of Eichen House.

One last, minor detail this episode offered is Deputy Strauss asking if Stiles and Scott believe in the supernatural. Is Strauss just being observant, as Deputy Clarke has been these last few episodes, or does he know a lot more than he’s letting on?
