Teen Wolf has returned to our screens, but we haven’t seen all of our heroes just yet. What’s been going on with Kira?

In an interview with TVLine, EP Jeff Davis lets us in on Kira’s current condition. When we last left her at the end of the first half of Teen Wolf season 5, the kitsune had been struggling with the fox spirit inside her. She was dangerous and unpredictable, and because she was worried she’d hurt her friends, she left town with her mother.

During the Teen Wolf season 5B premiere, we hadn’t seen her at all, but that will change with tomorrow’s episode, “Damnatio Memoriae.” We already knew episode 12 was going to give us a look at where she’s been, whereas episode 13, airing on January 19, would give us a great look at what she’s going through in order to find balance once more.

Davis states that despite these complications, Kira and Scott are still a couple, though Scott is “anxious” about their time apart.

“When we pick up with Kira, you’ll see just where Mexico has taken her to try to fix the problem of the fox spirit taking over,” Davis says to TVLine.

In various trailers, we’ve seen both the oni and skinwalkers battling Kira. This seems to be some sort of a test, Davis explains, though who exactly is testing her is still a mystery. Is it the spirit itself? Is it her mother, who has spent nearly 1,000 years as a kitsune and can teach her daughter a thing or two about keeping her powers in check?

We’re not sure, but episode 13 promises to be a great one. Not only will we see what exactly is going on with Kira, but Davis also explains that Scott and Stiles will go into the desert to get her back. This doesn’t mean the best friends are back to where they used to be, but it will certainly help to patch things up between the two.

Teen Wolf season 5, episode 12, “Damnatio Memoriae,” airs Tuesday, January 12 at 9:00 p.m. ET ahead of The Shannara Chronicles on MTV.
