Jonah Hill and Emma Stone have reunited in the Netflix show Maniac, and the first teaser for the show will make you…confused.

Ever since word got out that the former Superbad co-stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill would be teaming up in a new Netflix show, Maniac, fans have been excited. Very little was revealed about the show itself, but we couldn’t help feeling happy about seeing the two actors work together onscreen again.

Netflix has finally released a teaser for the show, and if you were hoping that the trailer would drop some serious deets about the show, I’ve got some bad news for you. The trailer doesn’t give away too much in the way of plot and story–at all–but it does give audiences a good taste of the feel of the show. It’s a disorienting and confusing teaser that leaves you with more questions than answers, and we can expect that same amount of intrigue in the show itself.

Maniac, which will be a limited series for Netflix, is based on a Norwegian series with the same name and will be directed by Cary Fukunaga (True Detective season 1). Though the teaser doesn’t give much away in the form of plot, Deadline has reported that the show will tell the story of two individuals who are drawn to the late stages of a pharmaceutical trial. Annie Landsberg (Stone) is drawn in because she feels aimless and fixated on the broken relationships with her mother and sister, and Owen Milgrim (Hill) is drawn in because he has been struggling for years against a disputed schizophrenia diagnosis.

Both individuals feel lost, aimless, and that their life hasn’t turned out like the would expect, and find the trial’s promise of fixing any heartbreak or mental problem too enticing to turn down. The two take a sequence of pills developed by Dr. James K. Mantleray (Justin Theroux), but throughout the trial things don’t go quite as smoothly as they expected.

Maniac sounds like it will be a truly engaging series, and one that we just can’t miss. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long to check out the show for ourselves. Maniac will be available on Netflix for streaming September 21.
