Taylor Swift is gearing up to regain control of her back catalogue.

There’s no denying that Taylor Swift has been having a pretty good year, but 2019 hasn’t been without its downs for the pop star.

Specifically, Swift made headlines earlier this summer when news broke that Taylor’s old record label (Big Machine) had been bought by none other than celebrity manager Scooter Braun.

Braun’s acquisition of the company also makes him the owner of Swift’s masters through Reputation, something the “ME!” singer was not pleased with — and with good reason.

Shortly after news hit the internet of the acquisition, Swift revealed in a lengthy Tumblr post that she’d felt blindsided by former Big Machine head Scott Borchetta’s decision to sell the company (and her masters) to Braun — especially given Swift’s personal history with the man best known for managing high profile acts like Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato.

Hope may have seemed lost on the matter of Taylor Swift’s masters, but now it appears as though the Lover singer might just be putting plans in motion to regain control of the narrative.

Speaking with Tracy Smith in an interview for CBS Sunday Morning set to air later this week, Swift was asked about the possibility of re-recording her back catalogue as a way to regain control of her master recordings.

“Might you do that?” asks Smith during the interview.

“Oh yeah,” responds Swift.

“That’s the plan?” asks Smith, asking for clarification.

“Yeah, absolutely,” responds Swift.

As much as we love Swift’s original recordings of her old music, it’s great to hear that she’s looking into rerecording as an option. Plus, it’ll be interesting to see if she change anything up in the process of re-recording, or tries to stay as true to the original tracks as possible.

Either way, we’re sure we’ll have a while to wait before Taylor Swift hits the studio to re-record her old hits. First up for Swift is, of course, the release of her highly anticipated seventh studio album.

Titled Lover, the album is set to be released worldwide on Friday, August 23.

Meanwhile, CBS Sunday Morning’s interview with Taylor Swift is set to air Sunday, August 24 at 9 a.m. ET.
