Taylor Swift has signed on to join the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of The Giver starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep.

The pop/country star will put down her guitar for a bit to dabble, once again, in the acting realm next month as she joins the a-list cast of The Giver.

Swift will join Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Brenton Thwaits, and newly added Katie Holmes.

The Giver is adapted from a novel of the same name which centers around a young boy named Jonas (Thwaits) living in a dystopian community who is chosen to be the receiver of all memories.

Swift is set to play Rosemary, who was the last child to be chosen as the receiver of memories 10 years before Jonas. She is trained by The Giver (Bridges) but has trouble handling the pain and suffering that comes with the memories.

Swift has had roles in 2010s all-star comedy Valentine’s Day, the animated The Lorax, and guest starring turns on shows like CSI and New Girl.

Along with the addition of Swift, Katie Holmes reportedly signed a deal to join the cast yesterday. Holmes will play Jonas’s sweet but straight-laced mother opposite Skarsgard who will play the boy’s father.

Filming on the project is set to get underway on October 7 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Weinstein Company is producing the film which has been in development for nearly 15 years. Phillip Noyce (Salt) is directing from a screen adaptation from Vadim Perelmen (House of Sand and Fog).

The Giver is set for release on August 15, 2014.
