Taissa Farmiga, who plays Emma Watson’s sister in The Bling Ring, talks about the film, how she got the role, and her return to American Horror Story in season 3.
When speaking about The Bling Ring with Examiner, Farmiga reveals that there was a great deal of secrecy surrounding the audition for her role.
Farmiga describes the experience of her casting as “very secretive.” The casting director for the movie called her directly and sent over just two pages of the script. Then they asked her to make a tape of her audition.
“On the subject line it said ‘Untitled Sofia Coppola’ so I was definitely interested,” says Farmiga. Later, Farmiga said she flew to L.A. to speak about the role with Coppola. Just two weeks later she was on set filming the movie.
The actress has high praise for Coppola saying, “There’s just something about Sofia that, you just want to listen to her.” Farmiga also added that it was very interesting to work for a director that gave her a kind of freedom with the role.
Farmiga explains that Coppola, “Made us feel like we were working with her, even when we were really working for her. That was amazing.”
She also hopes that this movie will come as a warning to the younger generation. “I just hope that it comes as a warning,” Farmiga says. “Just for kids to see how bad things can get with social media and celebrity obsession, that you can’t take things this far. Admiration is great, but there is a line not to cross.”
While fans missed Farmiga in American Horror Story season 2, the actress says that she’s glad Murphy didn’t have a role for her because it allowed her to work on films, including The Bling Ring.
“I’m very excited to come back, I can tell you that,” Farmiga teased when asked about American Horror story season 3. When Ryan Murphy called her back in January, all he had to do was tell her a little about her character to get her on board.
She’s also looking forward to being reunited with the cast of American Horror Story, several of which were on season 1 with her. “I’m just looking forward to working with the cast again, I haven’t seen them in like a year-and-a-half,” She says. Farmiga also revealed that she still hasn’t seen a script for Coven but says it’s, “going to be pretty awesome.”
