Netflix has tapped Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to write, direct, and produce two animated series based on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

According to Deadline, the first series will be based on beloved characters and world from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but will not be a straight adaptation. The second animated series has been described as a completely original creation, one which will provide a different take on the Oompa-Loompas that builds out of their world.

Both animated series will capture the spirit and magic of Roald Dahl’s story, but will build the world that exists beyond the confines of the story’s pages.

Taika Waititi signing on to these two series is the start of the extensive recent partnership between Netflix and The Roald Dahl Story Company, which has plans to reimagine some of the author’s most popular stories like Matilda, The BFG, and The Twits.

“Our mission, which is purposefully lofty, is for as many children as possible around the world to experience the unique magic and positive message of Roald Dahl’s stories,” Roald Dahl’s widow, Felicity Dahl, said in an earlier statement. “This partnership with Netflix marks a significant move toward making that possible and is an incredibly exciting new chapter for the Roald Dahl Story Company. Roald would, I know, be thrilled.”

The two Netflix animated series adds to the already impressive creative run that Taika Waititi has had lately. The director recently won best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for the film Jojo Rabbit. He’ll be back to direct the Thor: Ragnarok sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder, and was recently approached to direct an upcoming Star Wars after directing the season 1 finale of The Mandalorian. His next film takes on the world of soccer with Next Goal Wins, which stars Michael Fassbender and Elisabeth Moss.

No word yet on when the two animated Netflix series will drop.
