The title and summary for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1 reveals that new challenges (and crazy guest-stars) will be facing Team Coulson in the season premiere.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1 will be titled “Shadows,” it was announced today. The episode, airing in two long weeks on ABC, will follow Director Coulson and his team as they dodge the mistakes of the past – and struggle to face the future.

The official synopsis for “Shadows” offers an update on the current status of the plucky crew, who clearly refuse to say die. “Coulson and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources,” ABC says. “But that’s not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere.

“However,” the summary continues. “With new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?”

Not the rhetorical question we would have asked, but we’ll take it.

Though the episode synopsis is not forthcoming on who those “new members” are, the rest of the press release is much happier to oblige.

B.J. Britt will return in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1 as fan-favorite Agent Antoine Triplett. Also reappearing is the lovable Patton Oswalt as Agent Koenig, and Adrian Pasdar as the less-lovable (and promoted) Brigadier General Glenn Talbot.

In addition, a bumper-crop of actors will be making their first appearance in “Shadows.” The fantastic Lucy Lawless will make her highly-anticipated debut as Agent Isabelle Hartley, and Henry Simmons will turn up as newcomer Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie.

And don’t go anywhere, we’ve got plenty of bad guys coming too. Reed Diamond will make his first appearance as HYDRA mastermind Daniel Whitehall, while Simon Kassianides pops in as his presumed sidekick, Sunil Bakshi. Brian Patrick Wade will guest star as Carl “Crusher” Creel, like the baddie-of-the-week known as “the Absorbing Man.”

That all sounds pretty exciting, right? Well, hang on to your hats, agents. We’re not even finished.

George Stephanopoulos – yes, the political-advisor-turned-TV-guy George Stephanopoulos – will appear on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1 as himself. That’s pretty neat, right? Know who’s even neater?

Hayley Atwell. As Agent Peggy Carter. Who will totally be appearing on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Yeah, we’re screaming too.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2, episode 1, “Shadows,” will air on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 9:00 p.m. on ABC.

What – or who – are you most excited to see on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ season 2, episode 1?
