Creed 2, starring Michael B. Jordan, will be directed by Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone.

While many of us might have liked to see Ryan Coogler return to direct the sequel to Creed — a fantastic movie that re-captured the magic of the Rocky franchise — it is perhaps fitting that Sylvester Stallone will take over the reins.

Aside from, you know, starring in the Rocky franchise as the titular character, Sylvester Stallone has directed all but the first in the series (the o.g. Rocky was directed by the late John G. Avildsen); he is undoubtedly the most qualified man for the job, and will likely deliver a solid follow-up.

The news was revealed via Stallone’s own official Instagram account:

Michael B. Jordan is of course returning as the titular (Donnie) Creed for the sequel, with Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago set to be the main antagonist. Stallone’s Rocky, who had a rough go of it during Creed, will likely also be back on screen.

Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler have two upcoming collaborations: Black Panther, which stars Chadwick Boseman as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first main black superhero, and the drama Wrong Answer, with Jordan playing a math teacher faced with the ethical dilemma of altering his students’ test scores in order to secure funding for his school.

‘Creed 2’ is expected to be released in 2018
