Good news for fans of Lev Grossman’s fantasy series, The Magicians— Syfy announced on Wednesday that it plans to move forward with creating a pilot based on the author’s best-selling fantasy book trilogy.

Deadline reports that the network has indeed given the go-ahead for a pilot based on Lev Grossman’s series. The entertainment news website also reports that the upcoming one-hour episode will be penned by John McNamara (Prime Suspect) and Sera Gamble (Supernatural) and is set to be produced by Michael London (The Illusionist, Sideways) and Janice Williams (Lola Versus).

London, it seems has been linked to adaptions of The Magician before, having originally attempted to pitch a pilot based on Grossman’s books in October of 2011. Despite the fact that Fox acquired rights for a TV adaption, nothing ever came of it.

Published in 2009, The Magicians and the books in the series that follow, The Magician King and The Magician’s Land, tell the story of a group of New Yorkers in their twenties studying magic. As they delve further into their studies, the group discovers that the fantasy worlds they originally read about as children are actually much more real than they ever realized. What’s more, the group soon realizes that the reality of the fantasy world poses a grave threat to humanity as they know it.
