The first television promo for Supernatural‘s ninth season teases the immediate fallout of the season 8 finale — and it’s intense.

On the heels of a five minute Supernatural season 9 sneak peek, we now have a TV spot specifically advertising the season premiere.

The promo opens with Sam unconscious in a hospital bed and Dean demanding of a doctor, “You’re trying to tell me my brother’s life is in God’s hands?”

After a rundown building’s windows explode, we hear Abaddon speaking over shots of Castiel looking confused and Dean running down a hospital hallway as windows shatter behind him. She says, “All the angels with their clipped wings will bow to me or they will burn.”

We then see a shot of a bloodied Dean, unconscious Sam in his hospital bed, and a mysterious figure with a hand on each of their foreheads.

The next shot is of Sam and Dean with a yellow filter as Sam says, “There is nothing to fight for.” Dean punches him, and then we see Crowley having duct tape pulled off his mouth.

We have a flash of Abaddon and Dean fighting in an alley before she sends him through a window. This appears to be the same building as the one that had its windows explode earlier in the promo.

The final shot is of Sam entering a room and coming face-to-face with Death, who says, “Hello Sam. I’ve been waiting for you.”

While we know Sam will recover from the trials, Dean will be keeping a big secret about how he recovers. This promo has only whet our appetites about what kind of deal Dean might make for his brother’s sake, especially if Death himself is involved.

Supernatural season 9 premieres Tuesday, October 8 at 9:00 p.m. on The CW.
