Supernatural will stop airing new episodes after the premiere of tonight’s episode 13, but does intend to return to finish the final season.

Supernatural executive producer Andrew Dabb announced on Twitter earlier today that episode 13 — which is airing tonight, March 23 — will be the last new episode to air for an undetermined amount of time.

As with nearly all of Hollywood right now, production on the show was shutdown amid coronavirus concerns. Andrew Dabb clarified that while Supernatural has filmed through episode 18, their visual effects and sound departments have closed because of the outbreak.

That means that although the show has the footage through episode 18, those episodes can’t be shown due to the lack of post-production work.

However, Dabb promised that fans will “have some special treats coming along the way — to help us all get through this.”

At the time of the shutdown, Supernatural was just two episodes away from completing filming on its 20-episode final season.

However, while fans may be afraid that the show will simply not return, thus making tonight’s episode the series finale, Dobb assured viewers that the cast and crew of Supernatural, along with “the CW, and Warner Bros fully intend to return and finish the series. It’s not a matter of ‘if,’ it’s a matter of ‘when.'”

Tonight’s episode of Supernatural is titled “Destiny’s Child” and marks the return of Genevieve Padalecki as the demon Ruby.

According to the official synopsis sent out by The CW, the episode will focus on “a search for the one thing that may give the Winchesters an edge against God leads Sam and Dean to Jo’s (guest star Danneel Ackles) door and to a secret that may have died with Ruby. Meanwhile, Castiel asks Jack to do the unthinkable to help the brothers in their quest.”
