Supernatural executive producer Jeremy Carver recently revealed some of what we can expect in the early part of season 9.

“We’ll be delving a lot more into” the Men of Letters, Carver tells EW. “[A]nd in fact, we’ll be seeing the very first two hunters to ever be stationed at the men of letters bunker.”

“That’s a really, really fun episode we have coming up early in the season,” which will include a flashback to 1935.

Meanwhile, at least the first three episodes of the season will deal with the consequences of the angels falling from Heaven. However, the fallout will remain even when the show finds its way back to its familiar monster of the week format.

“There are a lot of pieces to pick up,” Carver says. “As we pick up those pieces, we’re always introducing new things, but we’re very much in the world of consequences of last season.”

One case-of-the-week episode we can look forward to will deal with Dean gaining the ability to talk to animals. EP Bob Singer described the episode as “Doctor Dean-little.”

“One of the highlights” of that episode is “Dean getting into a brawl with a pigeon,” Carver teases. “It’s a logical progression from fairies to pigeons.”

We’ve also learned that the season premiere will be titled “Devil May Care” and the third episode “I’m No Angel.”

Supernatural‘s ninth season premieres October 8 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
