After two particularly grueling seasons, new Supernatural showrunner Jeremy Carver is promising that season 8 will have a scaled back mythology and lighter episodes delving into some quirky concepts.

Supernatural, which has been known for some of its more out there stories, including its infamous meta episodes like “The French Mistake” and its willingness to turn genre tropes on their heads, will be continuing that trend in season 8, E! Online reports.

One upcoming episode this season has us wondering if the Winchesters keep any ACME products in the trunk of the Imapala: “What happens when you find yourself living in a cartoon universe? That’s a lot of fun,” Carver says. Unfortunately, this episode will not be animated. “It deals with cartoon physiques in the real world.” Does that meant TNT galore? Count us in!

Another episode will be dealing “pretty heavily and fun-ly with the LARPing universe, different from the way we’ve dealt with it in the past,” Carver teases.

Season 4’s “The Monster at the End of this Book,” which introduced the Supernatural novels written by the prophet Chuck, and season 5’s “The Real Ghostbusters,” which followed the Winchesters at a Supernatural convention, were the show’s other forays into live action roleplaying. We loved those episodes so we’re looking forward to seeing how they twist it around this time!

Supernatural season 8 premires Wednesday, October 3 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
