The CW has released the official description for the Supernatural season premiere, entitled “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”

According to KSiteTV, the season premiere will see Sam and Dean reunite after a year apart before they run into some familiar faces:

SAM AND DEAN ARE REUNITED AFTER A YEAR APART — Dean (Jensen Ackles) re-emerges from Purgatory, but he isn’t alone. He heads straight for Sam (Jared Padalecki), but the reunion isn’t exactly what he thought it would be. Sam drops everything to join his brother, but leaving the life he had grown to enjoy turns out to be harder than he imagined. Dean and Sam look for Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) who has managed to escape Crowley’s (guest star Mark Sheppard) grasp, but things come to a head quickly when Kevin tells them what it is that Crowley wants. Robert Singer directed the episode written by Jeremy Carver (#802).

We know that while Dean spent a year in Purgatory, Sam quit hunting and attempted to live a normal life, which included a dog and a girlfriend. It sounds like the time apart means the brothers will have to get to know each other again and, in a sense, relearn their relationship. This dynamic is reminiscent of season 1, in which Sam rejoins Dean on the road after leaving the normal life he’d wanted for so long.

This also marks the first Supernatural episode written by Jeremy Carver since season 5’s “Point of No Return.” After two years of co-showrunning the U.S. version of Being Human, Carver returns to Supernatural, where he worked from seasons 3 through 5.

Are you as excited as we are for the season premiere?

More on season 8

The CW has also updated its Supernatural season 8 official description:

Season Eight begins with Dean’s seemingly impossible escape from Purgatory, though Castiel is nowhere to be found. However, Dean isn’t alone. He’s returned with a mysterious comrade-in-arms whose reason for escape is perhaps more than Dean bargained for. Meanwhile, Sam finds himself reconciling the life he discovered while Dean was gone with Dean’s sudden reappearance. As the boys struggle with their unexpected reunion, they make a shocking discovery that could lead them on a deeply personal mission to settle old scores. If only they could agree – is this a “family business” or isn’t it?
