With Supernatural season 9 only a week away, the king of Hell himself previews what we can expect when the show returns.

In a new interview, Mark Sheppard teases Crowley in the new season:

“I think the season finale this year was extraordinary,” Sheppard says, also calling it “a great place to finish up the year and a fantastic starting point for next year.”

Sheppard adds, “Certainly the scene that got the most response from the fans this year was the scenes in the church with Sam and Dean and Crowley.”

In these scenes, Sam sought to cure Crowley as the final trial to close the gates of Hell permanently. The cure was clearly affecting Crowley up until Dean convinced Sam to stop the trial since completing it would have been fatal.

So what can we expect from the king of Hell in season 9? “For Crowley this should be an interesting year,” Sheppard teases. “The so-called cure having not been completed still, I think, has an effect on Crowley whether he likes it or not.

“There is some sort of residual effect that we probably will be intersecting with at some point this year, much to Crowley’s chagrin.”

Supernatural season 9 premieres Tuesday, October 8 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
