If you’re dead, you better stay dead. Otherwise Supernatural‘s Ghostfacers will be back on your case in the second half of season 9.

Reports out of the Salute to Supernatural convention in Burbank over the weekend indicated that the Ghostfacers may be returning in season 9. And yes, A.J. Buckley and Travis Wester will be returning to the show in 2014, confirms Screenfad, though no other details about their return were forthcoming.

Buckley and Wester, who play bumbling ghost hunters Ed Zeddmore and Harry Spangler respectively, first appeared on Supernatural in season 1’s “Hell House,” where they crossed paths with Sam and Dean on a ghost hunt.

They then returned on season 3’s “Ghostfacers,” an episode shot in documentary style a la Ghost Hunters. Their last appearance was in season 4’s “It’s a Terrible Life” when Sam Wesson and Dean Smith watched a series of their instructional ghost hunting videos.

They also starred in a ten-episode Ghostfacers web series that originally aired on The CW’s website. The web series also appears as an extra on the Supernatural season 5 DVD and Blu-ray sets.

With the death of Meg in season 8, the Ghostfacers are Supernatural‘s longest surviving recurring characters. Can we expect Ed and Harry to survive their season 9 appearance? Only time will tell, though it’s no secret that Supernatural is in constant need of characters to repopulate its world with the revolving doors of humans and non-humans alike.

It will be interesting to see what brings the Ghostfacers back into the Winchesters’ path as the scope of the series has expanded substantially since their last appearance. Howevever, we had an old school ghost hunt just last episode in “Bad Boys,” so perhaps we’re being set up for future returns to Supernatural‘s roots.

Are you looking forward to the Ghostfacers returning to ‘Supernatural’?
