The CW has released a batch of promotional stills from Supernatural season 9, episode 7 “Bad Boys,” featuring flashbacks to a young Dean.

In these stills, we see a few shots of the present day with Dean and Sam on a case while the majority are from when Dean was much younger.

From the pictures, we can see that Dean looks to be in his early-to-mid-teens, though the new actor playing young Dean (Dylan Everett) does not bear much resemblance to Brock Kelly, the actor who previously portrayed teenage Dean.

The official synopsis for the episode reads:

YOUNG DEAN — Dean (Jensen Ackles) gets a call from an old friend named Sonny (guest star Blake Gibbons) asking for help with a ghost. Sonny runs a home for delinquent boys, and Dean was sent there for stealing food when he was younger. Sam (Jared Padalecki) is stunned he never knew this about his brother and asks for more information, but Dean dodges his questions. Another murder occurs while Sam and Dean are at the house, so they scramble to find the culprit before anyone else dies. Meanwhile, Dean looks up an old girlfriend (guest star Erin Karpluk) and recalls his time at the house. Kevin Parks directed the episode written by Adam Glass.

There was previously some question about how Sam would be unaware of this time in Dean’s life, but judging from the above photos, it looks like he was out with John, doubling our curiosity as to the context of the situation that forced Dean to steal food.

Also based on the above stills, it looks like Dean cultivated a positive relationship with Sonny, the man running the home. It will be interesting to see what his and Dean’s dynamic looks like both in the past and present.

Supernatural season 9, episode 7 “Bad Boys” airs Tuesday, November 19 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
