Episode stills and a sneak peek from Supernatural season 9, episode 10 “Road Trip” show just how far Dean is willing to go to save Sam from Gadreel.

The Supernatural mid-season premiere will pick up where the mid-season finale, “Holy Terror,” left off, with Kevin dead, Sam’s consciousness suppressed in his own body by the angel Gadreel, and Castiel once again angel-fied.

The official synopsis for “Road Trip” reads:

DEAN’S BEST CHANCE OF SAVING SAM LIES WITH CROWLEY — Dean (Jensen Ackles) is devastated after Kevin’s death and vows to find the angel that killed him, not only to free Sam (Jared Padalecki), but to seek revenge. Castiel (Misha Collins) arrives at the bunker and suggests they try to separate Sam’s brain from the angel’s so they can talk to Sam and have him expel Gadreel. However, there’s one small problem: the only person who knows how to do that is Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Robert Singer directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb (910).

Promotional stills for the episode depict Gadreel, perhaps on his mission to eradicate threats to Metatron’s mission to rebuild Heaven, as well as Dean and Castiel teaming up with Crowley to forcefully eject Gadreel from Sam’s body.

The sneak peek from the episode shows Dean turning to his last resort for rescuing his brother: the king of Hell in his basement, Crowley. While Dean wants Crowley to “crack open an angel,” Crowley wants some fresh air in return. Dean is hesitant, but he realizes he is short on options.

“Because if I’m Plan A,” Crowley points out, “I’m sure you have a totally viable, much better Plan B.” Of course, being the sneaky demon that he is, Crowley also quickly realizes that Sam is the one being possessed by an angel and clearly intends to lord that over his enemies’ heads.

Supernatural season 9, episode 10 “Road Trip” airs Tuesday, January 14 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
