CW president Mark Pedowitz is “hopeful” Supernatural will be renewed for season 12.

At his Television Critics Association panel on Sunday, Pedowitz showed his support for the veteran drama, currently in its 11th season, joking that it will probably outlast even his own time at the network.

“Both Jared [Padalecki] and Jensen [Ackles] are having a blast,” he said at his panel. “As long as they’re having a blast, it’s a great thing. The show is performing better than it did last year, better than you could ever hope. I’m very hopeful that we’ll see it again.”

It’s promising that 11 seasons in Supernatural‘s ratings are among the network’s best and most consistent. Fans have followed the series from night to night on the network, and despite the moves, its ratings have remained strong. Knowing that, it’s no surprise Pedowitz would want to see it continue airing.

After his panel, Pedowtiz told reporters, “My answer to Supernatural‘s [future], from the day I’ve gotten here — and I’ve been pretty consistent — is if they can keep telling stories and the numbers keep holding and the guys want to do it, we’re going to try and keep going.”

He added, “I can’t tell you if [the not-yet-ordered] season 12 is the end, I can’t tell you if season 15 is the end. I can’t tell you it won’t outlast my tenure at The CW. My guess is, it will outlast me.”

As for what happens when it’s time for Supernatural to call it quits, Pedowitz said, “I think, creatively, the studio and the showrunners and Jensen and Jared will come to us first and say this is it, this is it, we’re out of juice, and we’ll deal with it. But at this point, I don’t think anyone’s out of juice.”

Supernatural returns with new episodes on Wednesday, January 20 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
