Another fan-favorite character will be returning in Supernatural season 11.

Rob Benedict will return as the prophet Chuck later this season, reports TVLine. Benedict, whose character made a surprise appearance in the 200th episode last season after disappearing at the end of the season 5 finale, is set to appear in Supernatural season 11, episode 20.

No other details about Benedict’s return have been released at this point, though it’s worth noting that the current season’s arc features God’s sister, Amara, and it is a fan-favorite theory that Chuck is actually God.

We first met Chuck in season 4’s “The Monster at the End of This Book,” when the Winchesters discovered a series of books being written about their lives. Chuck (pen name Carver Edlund after writers Jeremy Carver and Ben Edlund), the author of those books, had no idea he was tapping into the lives of real people. But he was not only writing about things that had happened to the Winchesters in the past; he was also predicting the future. We learned he was actually a prophet, writing what Castiel termed the Winchester Gospels.

However, at the end of season 5’s finale, Chuck, dressed in white, disappeared after finishing his manuscript, titled “Swan Song” after the episode title. Disappearing into thin air is not something an ordinary human would be able to do, and it was previously confirmed by the angel Joshua that God was on Earth, thus fueling many fan theories. This was also series creator Eric Kripke’s last episode as showrunner, and Chuck was commonly regarded as Kripke’s avatar in the series, so Chuck’s disappearance symbolized Kripke’s exit.

If Chuck is indeed God and he is returning to deal with Amara, he’s going to have a lot of questions to answer about his long-standing absence and what finally brought him out of hiding.
