Not only will Supernatural be returning for its tenth season this fall, it will also get a retrospective special.

The CW announced its fall 2014 premiere dates as well as several specials today. Supernatural season 10 will premiere Tuesday, October 7 at 9:00 p.m. ET.

While it’s great to get a premiere date, perhaps more interesting is that the CW announced a Supernatural special to air Monday, October 6 at 9:00 p.m. ET, following the season premiere of The Originals. This special will look at Supernatural‘s previous nine seasons, leading up to the season 10 premiere the next night.

We think this special is a huge sign of the network’s confidence in the veteran drama, which has been one of the few network television shows to increase its ratings over the last couple of seasons.

Another date for Supernatural fans to mark on their calendars is September 9, when Supernatural: The Complete Ninth Season will be released on DVD/Blu-ray.

Features of this set include a featurette exploring the mythology of the Men of Letters; tours of the Men of Letters bunker set; the 2013 Comic-Con Panel; audio commentaries of “Blade Runners,” “Mother’s Little Helper,” and “Bloodlines”; a mockumentary hosted by Misha Collins; deleted scenes; and the gag reel.

Supernatural‘s lead-in this coming season will be the highly anticipated Arrow spinoff, The Flash. This will be the third freshman drama Supernatural has launched since moving from Friday nights to mid-week (previously Arrow and The Originals), further indicating the network’s faith in the series.

Supernatural‘s ninth season ended with Metatron killing Dean, only for Dean to be resurrected as a demon thanks to the Mark of Cain. Stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles will be joined in season 10 by Misha Collins and Mark Sheppard as series regulars.

Supernatural season 10 premieres Tuesday, October 7 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
