In the season premiere, Sam discovered that Dean was not in fact dead but a demon and on the road with Crowley. While Sam vowed to rescue his brother, he was waylaid by Cole, a hunter with a mysterious vendetta against Dean.
Meanwhile, Dean lived it up at a roadhouse, with booze, karaoke, and sex. Crowley, though, was growing weary of the indulgences and wanted to move the party to Hell, where he and Dean would rule side-by-side. When Cole called Dean to threaten Sam’s life, Dean told him to go ahead and kill Sam — but know that he would hunt Cole down and kill him.
Elsewhere, Castiel was in rough shape with his fading grace. Hannah, though, showed up and asked for his help rounding up two rogue angels who refused to return to Heaven. The result was one dead rogue angel, one on the lam, and both Cas and Hannah injured.

“CROWLEY TELLS DEAN THE MARK NEEDS TO BE FED — Crowley (Mark Sheppard) notices Dean (Jensen Ackles) is becoming more and more aggressive. Dean tells him that’s the side effect of being a demon, but Crowley knows it’s something more — the Mark of Cain needs to be fed. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) is captured by Cole (guest star Travis Aaron Wade), an angry man who blames Dean for his father’s death years ago and wants revenge. Cole tortures Sam, hoping he’ll tell him where Dean is hiding. Hannah (guest star Erica Carroll) sees how weak Castiel (Misha Collins) is becoming as his grace continues to fade, so she makes a bold choice and asks Metatron (guest star Curtis Armstrong) for help. Thomas J. Wright directed the episode written by Andrew Dabb (#1003).”
