It’s no easy task having to imitate an actor who has been playing a role for 10 years, as Jensen Ackles has Dean Winchester. But Dylan Everett was up to the challenge, perfectly imitating Ackles’ movements and affect.

This moment is a testament to Everett’s portrayal of Ackles’ Dean, as Sam instantly recognizes his brother in a teenage form based on two words. Hearing Dean’s big brother nickname for Sam coming from his younger self’s mouth is also amusing.
Dean is mistaken for Sam’s son

Dean takes a moment to be charming when he picks up the keys a woman has dropped. When Sam follows him out of the motel room, she tells him that his son is polite. Sam, to his credit, just goes along with it. What else is there to do when your brother suddenly loses 22 years? That’s a odd one, even for the Winchesters.

Dean pulling the Impala’s bench seat forward to drive in his 14-year-old body is definitely a no-go with Sam’s height. Woops. Besides, is he even old enough to have a driver’s license? He’s going to have to wait a while to drink again, too.

Sam pretty quickly goes from amused at Dean’s recounting of his various puberty symptoms to TMI. Still, who can blame Dean for not wanting to deal with puberty a second time?
Dean confesses to liking Taylor Swift

Dean’s — Mr. Classic Rock himself — reaction to enjoying a Taylor Swift song is hilarious. He says it in a voice of true, horrified confession. (Though it might not be a bad idea for him to take T-Swift’s advice to “Shake It Off” after his confrontation with Charlie.)
And Sam, for his part, is ready to chock this one up to teenage hormones… That is, until Dean lets a Taylor Swift song play to close out the episode. Is another apocalypse imminent?
Brotherly banter

What really sells the conceit of this episode’s de-aged Dean, besides Everett’s superb portrayal of Dean, is the way Sam plays off of Dean in this weird situation. They keep up their brotherly banter without missing a beat. No matter what happens, the brothers are still brothers.

This moment sticks out because Dean doesn’t hesitate to turn back into his older self when Sam is in danger. There’s a price — Dean’s teenage body doesn’t have the Mark of Cain, and he’d considered just keeping his younger body to be rid of it — but Dean doesn’t care about details like that when his brother is involved.
