The CW has released the official description for Supernatural season 10, teasing “dark paths” with “consequences” for the brothers.

Supernatural‘s ninth season ended with Dean’s death and resurrection as a demon, thanks to the Mark of Cain. With Crowley watching on, Dean opened his black eyes and the screen cut to black.

Meanwhile, Castiel used Metatron’s storytelling against him, tricking him into broadcasting his plans to all the angels. With the angels turned against Metatron, Castiel locked him up in Heaven’s prison.

Now we have a bit of an idea of what to look forward to in the tenth season. The official synopsis reads:

Season 10 begins with Sam’s frantic search for his missing brother, who is gone without a trace. The road to recovering the wayward Dean takes Sam down dark paths, with consequences that will shake the boys to their core. Meanwhile, Castiel has to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of Metatron’s campaign. With his grace failing and rogue angels still on the loose, Cass will face the ticking clock of his own mortality as all-new threats emerge to once again push all of our heroes to their limits.

We know that Mark Sheppard will be a series regular in season 10, so no doubt Dean’s disappearance will heavily feature the King of Hell.

We’ll also be interested to see what “dark paths” Sam goes down to find Dean; we can’t help but be reminded of season 4 and Sam’s demon blood addiction after Dean went to Hell.

As for Castiel, will the angels once again turn to him to lead despite turning on him repeatedly? And what of his grace? We’re definitely excited for the setup for the new season!
