Supernatural has cast sci-fi staple Tahmoh Penikett in a recurring role for season 9.

Penikett, who is best known for his roles in Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse, will play a fallen angel named Ezekiel, reports E!

Supernatural executive producer Jeremy Carver described Ezekiel as “a dignified warrior angel injured in the Fall” at the end of season 8 when Metatron expelled all angels from Heaven.

Ezekiel will make his debut in the season 9 premiere and recur through the season.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Carver teased that the fallen angels are going to shake everything up. “We’re going to learn pretty quickly that a world full of fallen angels is pretty much a free-for-all,” he said.

“We’re going to see it’s not one unified body. We’ve got lots of angels out there with lots of different agendas. Many are feelings lost and vengeful. A world of fallen angels is a dirty, bloody, scary and, in some ways, a very human world.”

Whether Ezekiel will be one of the angels looking for the newly human Castiel for revenge or if he will be willing to team up with the Winchesters to restore the natural order remains to be seen. But since the fallen angels will retain their powers minus teleportation, Ezekiel will not be someone to be trifled with no matter what side he is on.

Supernatural season 9 premieres Tuesday, October 8 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
