Romance is in the air for Castiel, as Supernatural has cast a love interest for the fallen angel.
Shannon Lucio will join Supernatural season 9, reports TVLine. Lucio’s character, April Kelly, will appear in the third episode of season 9, airing on October 22.
Supernatural‘s ninth season will deal with the fallout of the angels falling to Earth after Metatron expelled them from Heaven. Unfortunately for Castiel, however, he had his grace stolen. This left him human, and he will spend the season learning what it means to be human, according to Supernatural executive producer Robert Singer.
“He’s got to deal with that while dealing with the very, very real fallout from the angels falling to Earth, which one could blame him for. Which many angels do blame him for,” EP Jeremy Carver adds. “So we’re going to find Castiel in a role where he’s both human and also hunted.”
Since starring as Lindsay Gardner on The O.C., Lucio has had recurring roles on Prison Break, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Gates. She has also had guest spots on numerous shows, including Once Upon a Time, and she will appear in the pilot episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
Supernatural season 9 premieres Tuesday, October 8 at 9:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
