Fan favorite Supernatural writer and producer Ben Edlund will not be returning to to the show in season 9.
It was revealed at this weekend’s All Hell Breaks Loose convention in Australia that Edlund is leaving the show after seven seasons. He will be be joining the staff at Revolution, the current project of Supernatural‘s creator, Eric Kripke.
Unfortunately it has been confirmed that Ben Edlund will not be writing for Supernatural in Season 9.

Edlund, who created the comic book The Tick, is also known for his work on the Joss Whedon shows Firefly and Angel. He wrote the Hugo Award-nominated episode of Angel, “Smile Time,” in which the main characters are turned into puppets.
Edlund joined Supernatural in season 2, debuting with the episode “Simon Said.” He is known for writing both off-the-wall, like season 3’s “Ghostfacers” and season 6’s “The French Mistake,” as well as deadly serious episodes, like season 4’s “On the Head of a Pin” and season 5’s “The End.” His final episode on Supernatural was “The Great Escapist.”
He also directed two episodes of Supernatural: season 6’s “The Man Who Would Be King” and season 7’s “Reading Is Fundamental.” Find a full list of the Supernatural episodes Edlund worked on here.
Revolution, the show about a future in which the electricity went out, aired its first season on Mondays at 10:00 p.m. ET on NBC. However, its second season has been moved Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. ET. The move does not seem to indicate a vote of confidence on the network’s behalf, so we hope the addition of Edlund will bolster the strength of the writing staff.
