In addition to the new long term additions to The Newsroom season 2 cast, we have our first announcement of a new guest star, and she has Supernatural and Futurama ties.

While we have heard about a few of our recurring guest stars returning for The Newsroom season 2, including Jane Fonda as Leona Lansing, and Chris Messina as Reese Lansing, our first new recruit is Lauren Tom.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Tom will play Kathy Ling in two episodes this season, during the election coverage. Her character is an election expert and will be manning the decision desk during News Night’s coverage of Election Night 2012. Lauren is best known for her work as Kevin’s mother on Supernatural, as well as voicing Amy & Inez Wong (amongst many other smaller characters) on Futurama.

We recently saw the first footage from The Newsroom season 2, and got glimpses of where all our favorite characters will be going this season.

Jim will be leaving the newsroom behind for the campaign trail when he volunteers to travel with the Romney campaign. Don and Sloane will continue to battle the chemistry between them, while Will and Mac navigate the rough landscape of their relationship due to Will’s inability to forgive Mac for her indiscretion. Maggie will be facing a serious string of misfortune, but hopefully will come out smelling like a rose in the end.
