Watch a sneak peek clip and a promo from next week’s episode of Supernatural, “The Great Escapist,” below.

First, the clip:

Here we see Dean bringing Sam a bowl of soup, made from one of their father’s infamous recipes. Sam, who is wrapped up in a blanket and looking ill, pushes the food away. Dean says that it has been three days since Sam has eaten, and he wants to take Sam’s temperature because he seems to be running a fever. In full on older brother mode, Dean demands that Sam let Dean take care of him.

Sam, however, refuses the care, saying that what’s happening to him isn’t a “cold or fever or whatever you feed.” No, the trials are somehow changing him, and the only way to get through it is to finish the Third Trial.

According to the synopsis, this episode will delve more into the mytharc of that final trial. When the Winchesters “receive a distressing video message from Kevin Tran,” their missing teenage prophet, “they set about trying to uncover the Third Trial.”

In the process, Sam and Dean “make a discovery that sends them to a casino in Colorado, to find a mysterious recluse who may be able to fill in the holes in Kevin’s research.” This recluse, we learn, is Metatron, the angel who served as the scribe of God. He wrote the tablets before disappearing.

“Meanwhile, Crowley is on a winning streak,” and “Castiel tries to elude Naomi and the angels hunting him.” When we last saw Castiel, he’d fought Naomi’s programming and stole the angel tablet to keep it out of the hands of Heaven and Hell alike.

And the promo:

Here we get a few more hints about the storyline of the episode. We see that Castiel’s attemps to elude Naomi aren’t successful after all, as he seems to have been captured but refuses to give up the location of the angel tablet. We also see Kevin’s video message and the worsening of Sam’s trial-induced condition.

“The Great Escapist” airs Wednesday, May 1 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
