Supernatural season 11, episode 6, “Our Little World,” aired tonight. Read our recap and discuss the episode with fellow fans.

Dean and Amara

Crowley and Amara aren’t getting along particularly well, as Crowley “grounds” Amara. Meanwhile, the Winchesters discover Crowley’s base: an abandoned asylum. They break in, and Dean is tasked with going after Amara. While Crowley prepares to kill Dean, their bromance officially over, Amara is having none of it.

Amara threatens Crowley to let Dean leave, and Crowley is forced to agree. Amara’s powers have become too great for him to go against, it seems. Amara, though, has a connection with Dean. He was the first thing she saw after being released from her prison; he was her first glimpse at God’s creation, which came after she was locked away.

Dean seems to feel an equal pull toward Amara — which is weirdly uncomfortable since she’s currently in the form of a teenage girl — but Amara throwing Sam into a wall is enough to snap him out of everything. Unfortunately, Dean still won’t tell Sam about his connection with Amara, which is definitely information his brother could use.

Amara, meanwhile, is off to experience the world before she settles her ancient score with God.

Castiel and Metatron

Castiel continues to suffer the aftereffects of the attack dog spell — though the effects are more psychological than physical. The very thought of leaving the bunker induces flashbacks to the violence he inflicted, so instead he hangs out in Sam’s room, watching crap television. However, when a news report gives him a lead on Metatron’s whereabouts, he gets to work.

Metatron, who has been pathetically human since Cas and Sam stole his grace after jailbreaking him from Heaven, is pretty much at Castiel’s mercy. And though he tries to manipulate Cas into letting him go, Cas (satisfyingly) beats him bloody and demands answers about The Darkness. And this is where we get the big bombshell of the episode: The Darkness is God’s sister. God had to sacrifice her to create the world.

It always seems to come down to sibling stories on Supernatural, doesn’t it? Michael/Lucifer and Cain/Abel were direct parallels to Sam and Dean, so that begs the question of just how The Darkness and God will parallel the brothers.

Sam and his visions

Sam has continued to try to get back to the Winchester basics of saving people. When they capture one of Crowley’s demons, he wants to exorcise the demon to save the host, only to discover the meatsuit is dead.

Later, when he and Dean infiltrate Crowley’s lair, Sam takes on Crowley’s guards and tries to subdue them without killing them. He is able to stop two but has to kill the third when he nearly strangles Sam. (How many times has Sam been strangled? It’s a miracle he can still speak.) However, it’s nice to see Sam’s dedication to getting back to the original purpose of hunting.

Additionally, Sam had another vision and was particularly shaken — and now we know why. We have confirmation that he is seeing visions of The Cage, the one he jumped into at the end of season 5, taking Michael and Lucifer with him to save the world. It looks like all that time Sam spent in The Cage having his soul mutilated to the point of him needing a wall in his head after his rescue will be playing into the mythology of the season.

We haven’t had much Sam point of view in recent seasons, so spending more time with him has been a welcome development so far in season 11.
