Supernatural season 10, episode 17, “Inside Man,” saw the return of the Winchesters’ surrogate father. We look at our favorite moments with Bobby Singer in the episode.

Supernatural season 10, episode 17, “Inside Man,” featured Sam and Castiel contacting Bobby in Heaven and asking him to help Castiel infiltrate Heaven so he could break Metatron out of prison, so they could get information about the Mark of Cain out of him. Bobby’s return was quite emotional, so we look at the highlights.

Bobby and Sam’s emotional conversation

The conversation that occurs when Sam first makes contact with Bobby in Heaven is a really beautiful scene. Sam and Bobby miss each other deeply, and even though they’re talking via psychic radio, the emotion on their faces and in their voices is palpable. And it reminds us, the audience, how much we miss Bobby’s presence too.

Bobby reading Tori Spelling’s autobiography

In an amusing throwback to season 6’s “You Can’t Handle the Truth,” we find out Bobby has been reading the autobiography of one of his favorite celebs while in Heaven — Tori Spelling. It’s a small but silly moment that endears Bobby to us even more, as if that were possible.

‘The Bobbys are surly’

To distract the angels from his spirit being on the loose, Bobby releases a number of Bobbys from their Heavens, proving you can take the hunter out of the life, but you can’t take the life out of the hunter. The angels’ response to the Bobbys being on the loose is hilarious, as “surly” is the perfect word to describe our favorite Bobby.

‘He looks like a Fraggle’

A lot has happened since Bobby’s death in season 7, and his trademark snark has been missed. Getting his view on one of the brothers’ biggest adversaries since his death was fantastic. And completely on point.

Bobby’s letter to Sam

Bobby wrote a letter to Sam for him to read after their mission was complete, closing out the episode in a tear-inducing manner:

“Cas told me what you’re doing for Dean and I’m not asking you to stop, but maybe going behind his back ain’t the best idea. Your brother, he can be stubborn, but I think he’d understand. I know it’s the life, doing a little bad so you can do a lot of good, but sometimes the bad’s real bad and the good, it can come at one hell of a price.

“I ain’t there on the ground and whatever you do, I know you’ll make the right choice. You’re a good man, Sam Winchester. One of the best. And I’m damn proud of you, son. I was content up here, but getting the call from you, it’s the happiest I’ve been in forever no matter what it costs. So stay safe, keep fighting and kick it in the ass.”

Sam wasn’t the only one crying after hearing the contents of this letter. Bobby truly grounds the show and the brothers with his humanity and his love for the brothers, which shone through in this letter. This moment was a testament as to how much the show has missed Bobby Singer since his departure.

Can we bring him back? Please?
