Warner Bros. will be shooting Superman Vs. Batman in Michigan due to $35 million in incentives to film in the state early next year.

Variety reports that the film, starring Henry Cavill and Ben affleck, will be unloading about $130 million in the state. Filming is expected to begin in Detroit and in other areas in Michigan during the first few months of 2014.

Director Zack Snyder released a statement about working in the city, saying, “Detroit is a great example of a quintessential American city, and I know it will make the perfect backdrop for our movie.”

The film will result in the hiring of 406 Michigan workers, 500 vendors and of course thousands of extras to fill the streets. Production of such a large film will directly result in more than $5 million being spent on hotels in the area.

Michigan seems to be the hottest production place for Hollywood’s latest hits, including Oz the Great and Powerful, which was awarded $40 million to film in one of their studios back in 2011, and the production went on to spend over $100 million in the state.

The money for Superman Vs. Batman’s incentives will reportedly come from the MFO’s fiscal 2014 budget, which has around $50 million to use per year. The rest of these funds are used for other projects, which include AMC’s new drama, Low Winter Sun, which received about a third in incentives that Warner Bros. will be seeing.

Transformers 4 is currently filming in Detroit and receiving upwards of $35+ million in incentives, so we imagine this will continue to be the case until the next state decides to up the incentives to move big budget films to their cities.
