A Superman reboot is already on the way over at Warner Bros.— and the studio has already found its writer for the project.

According to Variety, Warner Bros., and DC Films are in the early stages of developing a brand new Superman film which will find author Ta-Nehisi Coates penning the script for the Man of Steel’s next adventure.

In addition to Coates, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot banner is also reportedly on board to produce the Superman reboot.

Both Abrams and Coates released statements speaking to their involvements in the DC project.

For his part, Coates spoke of how much it means to him to have the opportunity to shape the next chapter of Superman’s story.

“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” said Ta-Nehisi Coates. “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”

Meanwhile, Abrams spoke of how much he and the Bad Robot team are looking forward to joining forces with Coates on the new movie.

“There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity,” said Abrams.

As the forthcoming Superman movie is still in the early stages of development, the studio has yet to find a director to helm the project.

Also yet unknown is who will play the titular superhero in question. Henry Cavill has donned the cape since he first debuted as Clark Kent on the big screen in 2013’s Man of Steel, but it sounds like WB and DC will be looking for a new actor to pick up the mantle.

The casting search isn’t underway just yet, but we’ll be interested to hear more about who will be the next to play Superman on the big screen.
