Erik Valdez has been cast as a series regular in the CW’s Superman and Lois, where he will play Lana Lang’s husband opposite of Emmanuelle Chriqui.

According to Deadline, who first reported the news, Valdez will play Kyle Cushing, Smallville’s fire chief and local hero who’s seen his fair share of tragedy.

Small town raised with small town beliefs, Kyle doesn’t care much for the big city and often butts heads with people that come from it — which seems to hint that the small town fire chief will have plenty of reason to butt heads with Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

Valdez will play the husband to the recently cast Emmanuelle Chriqui, who has been announced as Superman and Lois ’ Lana Lang (Cushing).

Erik Valdez was recently a recurring guest star on the second season of the USA Network series Graceland, where he played the crime lord Carlito Solano. His previous TV credits include New Girl, Mistresses, 90210, Breaking In, Numb3rs, CSI: Miami and The O.C. Valdez was also a series regular on the Emmy-winning daytime TV show General Hospital.

Superman and Lois will follow the world’s most famous superhero couple as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

The pilot episode of Superman and Lois will be written and executive-produced by Todd Helbing, who is best known for his work on The Flash with Grant Gustin and Candice Patton. Arrow-verse mastermind Greg Berlanti, along with Sarah Schechter and DC Comics writer Geoff Johns, will serve as executive producers for the show.

The drama was supposed to begin filming its pilot episode during regular pilot season before taking a break and resuming production on the rest of its 13-episode order in the summer. However, after all pilot production was suspended over the COVID-19 pandemic, Superman and Lois will now go straight into series production
