The upcoming Superman and Lois TV series from the CW has tapped The Passage actress Emmanuelle Chriqui to play the role of Lana Lang.

According to Deadline, who first reported the news, Chriqui will play Lana Lang-Cushing, a loan officer at Smallville Bank who stayed in Smallville when others left for something bigger and brighter.

Lana re-establishes her friendship with her old friend, Clark Kent, during one of the most difficult periods in her life.

Chriqui recently starred alongside Mark-Paul Gosselaar in TV series adaptation of The Passage, which aired for one season on Fox. Her previous television credits include Entourage, Shut Eye, The Grinder, Murder in the First, The Mentalist, Cleaners — on which she was also an executive producer — and The Borgias. Her recent film appearances include The Knight Before Christmas, Hospitality, Super Troopers 2 and The Steps.

Though Lana Lang has generally been a minor supporting character in Superman comics, the character was made famous by the show Smallville, which had Kristen Kreuk the DC Comics character for 7 seasons. During that time, she was Clark’s main love interest.

Superman and Lois will follow the world’s most famous superhero couple as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

The pilot episode of Superman and Lois will be written and executive-produced by Todd Helbing, best known for his work on The Flash with Grant Gustin and Candice Patton, with Arrow-verse mastermind Greg Berlanti, along with Sarah Schechter and DC Comics writer Geoff Johns, serving as executive producers.

The drama was slated to film its pilot episode during regular pilot season before taking a break and resuming production on the rest of its 13-episode order in the summer. However, after all pilot production was suspended over the COVID-19 pandemic, Superman and Lois will now go straight into series production
