The success of Arrow and the upcoming spinoff The Flash has led Warner Bros. to put into development a Supergirl TV series.

It’ll be the first time a primetime show airing on a network like The CW will focus on a female superhero rather than a male one.

According to Deadline, the Supergirl TV series is being produced by Greg Berlanti, the mind behind the two aforementioned CW superhero shows. WB is the television studio in charge of the DC properties like Supergirl.

The show is reportedly a “new interpretation of the Supergirl character and her story.” Ali Adler, who worked with Berlanti on ABC’s No Ordinary Family, will write the script and executive produce.

The new television show won’t necessarily be on the CW like Flash and Arrow are. The producers will be shopping the pitch around to various networks in the weeks ahead.

The news comes as comic book fans take more and more notice to Marvel’s lack of female superhero leads in their highly successful feature films.
