Were you excited by the Supergirl television show news earlier this month? Good news: CBS has snapped it up.

The network has offered Supergirl a full series commitment, meaning it won’t be hanging in limbo during pilot season.

According to Deadline, who broke the news, the deal is bigger than Fox’s series commitment to the upcoming Batman series Gotham.

Supergirl is produced by Greg Berlanti, who is also responsible for CW’s Arrow and the upcoming spinoff The Flash. His success with other superheroes may explain why CBS was so keen to pick up the show and promise a series order.

As for what we can expect in Supergirl, Deadline says, “Of the several women who have assumed the caped girl persona in the comics, the Berlanti-Adler series will feature the most popular one: Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El, who shares his superpowers and vulnerability to Kryptonite. Unlike WBTV’s long-running Superman series Smallville, which focused on the superhero’s journey up to acquiring the powers and becoming Superman, Supergirl starts with Kara beginning to use her abilities.”

Berlanti is writing the script with Ali Adler. A premiere date hasn’t been set, but since we love superhero shows, you can bet we’ll be staying on top of this one.

Will you give ‘Supergirl’ a shot when it premieres on CBS?
