Supergirl season 2 will see another main character taking to the streets to fight crime, and we’re getting our first look at his costume.

We reported yesterday that James Olsen would be suiting up as the masked vigilante Guardian in Supergirl season 2. Now Mehcad Brooks has tweeted out a first look at his character’s vigilante costume. Check out the photo below:

According to Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, “These next few episodes are going to make him realize that being a photographer… is not enough for him, so he’s going to go on a pretty exciting career trajectory that we’re really pumped by.

“James is going to decide that he can no longer sit back and be a sidekick, so he’s going to decide to become a vigilante, and he’s going to become Guardian, complete with the shield.”

He’s going to enlist Winn’s help in this endeavor, but he is not going to tell Kara — which “is going to cause a massive problem” in their friendship.

“Now there’s this new masked vigilante, and she has her own feelings about vigilantes, and it becomes a push and pull about who gets to decide who gets to be a hero.”

James’ costume is an updated version of the original costume, which first appeared in 1942’s Star-Spangled Comics #7. Guardian was first created by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon as, essentially, the DC equivalent to Captain America, complete with shield.

He was initially a Metropolis police office named Jim Harper who became a vigilante to catch criminals the law could not stop. In the comics, Guardian has deep ties to Cadmus, which, interestingly, is appearing this season on Supergirl.

What do you think of James Olsen’s costume for ‘Supergirl’ season 2?
