Supergirl will not air a new episode tonight, Monday, January 11.

After last week’s winter premiere saw Kara and Astra grow a bit closer as well as Kara learn Hank/J’onn’s secret, Supergirl is taking a week off. Tonight is the College Football National Championship, which is sure to be a ratings juggernaut, so it’s possible CBS did not want to air new episodes against it.

Two Big Bang Theory reruns will air in Supergirl‘s place tonight, followed by repeats of Scorpion and NCIS: Los Angeles.

Supergirl will return Monday, January 18 with a Winn-centric episode titled “Childish Things.” The episode will introduce his father, the supervillain Toyman, played by Henry Czerny.

Supergirl season 1, episode 9, “Blood Bonds” featured Kara feeling like she was losing everything as Non kidnapped Hank, Astra challenged Kara’s memory of her mother, and Cat threatened to fire her if she couldn’t prove she wasn’t Supergirl. However, Kara overcame her struggles and learned from Astra that Alura had believed that Krypton was dying but was bound by the law to sentence Astra to life on Fort Rozz for murder.

This prompted Kara to initiate a prisoner exchange with Non. But when Hank was returned to the DEO, Non intended to double cross them; however, Astra stopped him from doing so, which Kara saw as a potential starting point for reconciliation.

And to stop Cat from believing she was Supergirl, Kara had Hank/J’onn (because Alex and J’onn brought her in on the secret) take Supergirl’s form so the two could appear in Cat’s office at the same time. Kara later told J’onn that her job and her friends kept her human.

The synopsis for next week’s episode, “Childish Things,” reads:

“Kara does her best to support Winn when his father, the supervillain Toyman, breaks out of prison and seeks out his son for unknown reasons. Also, Cat offers Lucy a job at CatCo and Alex asks Hank to use his powers to help uncover Maxwell Lord’s plans, on Supergirl, Monday, Jan. 18 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Henry Czerny guest stars as Winslow Schott, Sr., aka Toyman.”

Supergirl returns Monday, January 18 at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
