Italia Ricci will play Siobhan Smythe, aka Silver Banshee, on Supergirl season 1.

Ricci, a Chasing Life alum, will play the villain beginning in episode 14, reports ET Online. The role will be recurring.

Siobhan Smythe is described as “Cat Grant’s latest hire who at first becomes a work nemesis for Kara. But she later proves a more deadly foe for Supergirl when she takes on the mantle of DC Comics villain Silver Banshee.”

Says executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, “We are so excited to be working with Italia. We’ve been a fan of her work for years and we cannot wait to see her take on this iconic comic book role.”

In the DC Comics’ New 52, Siobhan Smythe leaves Ireland for a new start in the United States. In New York, she meets Supergirl and is able to understand her Kryptoanian speech. The two develop a friendship, but when Siobhan’s father, the Black Banshee, attacks them, Siobhan transforms into the Silver Banshee. Siobhan and Kara fight Siobhan’s father together.

Prior to the New 52 reboot, Silver Banshee was a recurring villain of both Superman and Supergirl. Her powers include superhuman strength, speed, stamina and endurance as well as a death wail that can kill anyone who hears it as long as Siobhan knows their true name. She is able to use this for other purposes like teleportation as well.

Ricci’s other credits include Unnatural History, Secret Girlfriend and Aaron Stone.

In other Supergirl news, we learned earlier this week that Supergirl has gotten a full season order at CBS, bringing its season 1 episode total to 20.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
