Supergirl is casting a young Kal-El for a future episode.

While Superman has appeared on Supergirl in the first five episodes, his appearances have been limited to specific shots and angles that keep viewers from getting a good glimpse of him. He arrived to save Kara from Reactron, but by the time Kara regained consciousness, he’d already left. We saw the most of his personality in an instant messaging exchange with Kara — complete with emoticon!

But now Supergirl is casting a 13-year-old actor with “future leading man looks,” TVLine reports. The role of the young Kal-El has the potential to be recurring, as the show explores the relationship between the Kryptonian cousins in flashbacks.

This is interesting, however, as Kara would have been in the Phantom Zone while Kal-El/Clark was in his teenage years. He’d already become Superman by the time the teenage Kara arrived on Earth. We’ll be curious to see how it works out. Might someone be telling Kara about Clark as a teenager to give her some insight into her cousin?

This would also be a chance to introduce the Kents, Clark’s adoptive family, which would draw obvious parallels to the Danvers, who raised Kara once she arrived on Earth.

Young Superman is first expected to appear in Supergirl season 1, episode 13, which will air in 2016.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
