Supergirl season 1, episode 16, “Falling,” exposes Kara to Red Kryptonite.

In the previous episode, Kara learned the truth about Alex killing Astra. But rather that abandon her sister, Kara embraced her and pulled J’onn in as well, reflecting the family unit the trio is creating in the DEO.

The synopsis for Supergirl season 1, episode 16, “Falling,” reads:

“Kara turns on her friends and the citizens of National City after being exposed to Red Kryptonite makes her malicious and dangerous. Also, Cat appears on The Talk to discuss Supergirl, on Supergirl, Monday, March 14 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. The hosts of CBS Daytime’s The Talk guest star.”

Red Kryptonite has appeared in numerous Superman stories, having different effects in each one. Based on this synopsis, it looks like this episode will be borrowing from Smallville, which had Red Kryptonite remove Clark’s inhibitions, making him immoral and reckless.

Considering Kara’s demotion at work, it wouldn’t surprise us to see Kara, affected by Red Kryptonite, go after Siobhan. But how will it affect her as Supergirl?

The below clips from the episode hint at both of these stories:

In this clip, we see Cat’s appearance on The Talk, during which she talks about Supergirl. When she returns to CatCo, she’s pretty proud of her work. Cat remains Supergirl’s biggest fan, as Supergirl has almost become part of the CatCo brand.

In this clip, we learn that Lucy quit her job at CatCo after breaking up with James. Kara wants to know why, and James says that he didn’t love her enough. Is he starting to realize that he does having feelings for Kara, as Lucy suggested? And does this mean we won’t be seeing Lucy anymore? Hopefully not.

Interestingly, our formerly anti-alien senator, Miranda Crane, returns in the above clip, and she’s flirting with Hank. Senator Crane changed her views on aliens after being rescued by Supergirl, and now she seems to be taking a special interest in the DEO. Will Supergirl’s actions while under the influence of Red Kryptonite affect her feelings on the organization?

This clip seems to take place after Kara has been exposed to Red Kryptonite. She’s dressing differently and being a bit cutthroat at her job, undercutting Siobhan and getting a reward from Cat as a result. Meanwhile, Winn looks on in concern at both women. This will likely be one of the first signs something is off with Kara before she really goes off.

Red Kryptonite is clearly affecting Supergirl in the above clip, as she takes on a Fort Rozz escapee. She simply plays with him during the fight and then allows him to escape because he’s not worth her time. He’s no White Martian or Indigo, so why bother?

Say what?

Finally, this clip seems to take place immediately following Supergirl letting the escapee go. She calls out J’onn for refusing to embrace his own abilities before storming out in an uncharacteristic display — leaving both Hank and Alex concerned. Hopefully they’ll realize something is affecting Kara, as this is not like her.
