Supergirl season 1, episode 13, “For the Girl Who Has Everything,” adapts the iconic Superman story “For the Man Who Has Everything.”

“For the Man Who Has Everything,” written by Alan Moore, was first published in 1985’s Superman Annual #11 and was adapted in a 2004 episode of Justice League Unlimited. In this story, a parasitic plant called the Black Mercy attaches itself to Superman. Superman falls into a coma, where he dreams of living a normal life, married with two children, on Krypton, which never exploded. In the real world, however, the plant feeds on his life force.

Supergirl season 1, episode 13, “For the Girl Who Has Everything,” will tell a similar story. The synopsis for the episode reads:

“In this episode, when a parasitic alien attaches itself to Kara and traps her in a dream world where her family is alive and her home planet was never destroyed, Kara’s beloved cousin Kal-El joins her and her parents in domestic Kryptonian bliss, where neither of them needed to escape to Earth, or become super heroes.”

We see from the clip below that Non is the one responsible for Kara being attacked by the Black Mercy:

This episode will also introduce a young Kal-El, played by Daniel DiMaggio:

Supergirl executive producer Ali Adler tells Den of Geek the difference between doing this story with Superman and with Supergirl: “Kal-El was a baby when he left, he doesn’t have the memory muscle that Kara does. So to return to Krypton, she’s been there, she’s formed relationships, she has her family.” She adds, “So while Kal-El imagines what his world would be, she knows. Really, for her it’s a trip home.”

Meanwhile, the DEO will have to cover for Kara’s absence (as seen in the clip below), try to free Kara from the Black Mercy and fend off a Kryptonian attack.
