Who says you can never go home? Mike returns to Pearson Specter and is ready to turn over a new leaf, if only Sean Cahill would let him. Check out the Suits season 4, episode 8, “Exposure,” recap!

The episode begins the morning after last week’s “We’re Done.” Rachel is crashing on Donna’s couch and she’s scared about facing Mike at the firm once again. She wants to be close to him, but Donna accurately points out “things will turn out the way they’re supposed to.” Pulling Mike in will only push him further away.

Donna reveals she slept with Harvey and while she wanted to try a relationship with him, she knew not to push the envelope with him for risk of losing him entirely. Later in the episode, she tells Harvey she’s going on a date, and while he jokes, we’re not surprised to see a flash of something more – maybe jealously? – pass over his face.

Harvey, Jessica and Louis are already getting into work while Donna talks Rachel off the edge. As Louis rushes to bury the Forstman document deep in the bowels of Pearson Specter’s storage files and forget about the whole Gillis Industries ordeal, Harvey and Jessica bicker like the name partners they are.

Unfortunately, they run right into Sean Cahill. He delivers a search warrant demanding every document related to the Gillis Industries takeover be turned over to him.

The dramatic irony of the scene takes hold as Jessica sarcastically invites him to search thirty years worth of documents in their storage, exactly where Louis hid the file moments ago. Thankfully, a judge revokes the warrant.

Mike, waiting in Harvey’s office, has no idea where to go once he finally gets into work. Donna reveals he is on the other side of the bull-pen now: a full-blown office. It’s not just any office though. It was Harvey’s old office. (Harvey’s idea.)

Harvey tasks him with brainstorming a way to stop Sean Cahill from poking around their files. When Mike relays this information to Louis, he rightly freaks out. He goes to Katrina to have her cover up their tracks, and he is going to Forstman to try and reverse the illegal deal, like it never happened in the first place.

Forstman’s idea to fix it? Write up the same document, therefore still illegal, but sign Harvey’s name on the line.

Louis’ ethics, morals and loyalty are what’s keeping him from turning Harvey in, and it’s certainly admirable enough, but the guilt of being put in this position in the first place is eating away at him.

Rachel approaches Mike in the library, trying to banter with him, but it quickly dives into bickering and snapping at each other. It’s been less than a day and she thinks she’s given him enough space. The confrontation between them leads to Mike shouting, “Why did it have to be him?” He wants the image of Logan and Rachel kissing out of his head.

She later shows up at Mike’s hotel room, but before he can slam the door, she reminds him of something: Tess. Long ago, she saw Tess and Mike in bed together – an image she could never get rid of.

Rachel: “I need to decide if you love me more than you hate what I did.”

Although Pearson Specter technically didn’t do anything wrong, the pesky man that is Sean Cahill will not stop until he does find a string to pull. That’s when the whole charade comes crashing down – specifically on Mike and Harvey. Even worse still, eventually, if he doesn’t find anything, he’ll make something up to find.

As an aside, we think Jessica resents Mike to his core. If she had never met him, her life would have been a whole lot simpler over these last few years. She may have liked him in the past, but he now puts her firm in far more danger than he’s worth.

Through a strange legal turn of events, Logan Sanders, through Sean Cahill, demands the release of all communication between just Harvey and Mike. Louis is completely in the clear – until he’s not. Harvey agrees to turn over all the documents, including those involving Forstman. Uh-oh.

Mike ends up piecing together the entire story about what Louis did, relaying it to Harvey. The episode ends in a slow motion montage with a few things happening at once:

  • Harvey going to look for Louis to find out just how screwed he is.
  • Mike appearing in Rachel’s office doorway, insinuating they should go home together
  • Louis going to Jessica and tearfully saying “I made a huge mistake.”
