Margot Robbie and her fellow female Suicide Squad cast members are teasing about what fans can expect from their characters!
It’s no secret that fans can’t wait to see Harley Quinn on the big screen, and trailers have indicated that her character will offer a good amount of comic relief. Now Margot Robbie is teasing fans that while she will have a humorous side, Harley Quinn is still there to kick ass.
“David [Ayer] really wanted her to be strong, badass and nuts — but fun as well,” explained Robbie to Entertainment Weekly in their print issue. “Whenever I would be inclined to play into the comedy or play her more likable, he’d always direct me the other way. He wanted her to be pretty vicious.” It’s good to hear that Ayer had a good handle on Harley Quinn and wanted to balance out the different sides of her character.
Viola Davis discussed how she had less to work with when it came to making Amanda Waller seem badass. Unlike the others, she didn’t have an awesome costume or super powers to work with. Davis said, “‘How can I be a badass?’ I had to do it internally. Of course I wore my ‘fro. And I embraced her bio. That was all I had. I didn’t have a cape or a golden lasso.” We’re confident that Davis will be able to make Waller just as strong as she is in the comics.
Instead of discussing her character, Enchantress, Cara Delevingne talked about how Ayer had her connected with her character by bonding with nature. “David [Ayer] asked me to go into a forest under a full moon and take my clothes off to feel what nature felt like, to feel what it felt like to be an animal,” teased Delevingne. “And I did it. It didn’t sound that weird to me.” Hopefully that interesting practice helped Delevingne understand Enchantress better.
Karen Fukuhara reveals that she felt a connection to her character Katana right away, “She has this samurai spirit, and that’s something I’ve been watching and learning about my whole life. I felt like I knew Katana as soon as I read the comic.”
It’s always fascinating to hear how the actors view their characters, and we definitely can’t wait to see all of these ladies portrayed on the big screen when Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5!
