Margot Robbie is revealing even more about her character Harley Quinn and the dangerous relationship she has with the Joker in Suicide Squad.

Harley Quinn and the Joker are known for having a twisted relationship in the comics. Dr. Harleen Quinzel had everything going for her before she met the Joker at Arkham. It comes as no surprise that Suicide Squad will be showing their relationship in a dark tone.

Margot Robbie teased to Total Film magazine that, “Harley’s story is about her relationships — not just with him, but finding herself and her independence. Their relationship is nuts. It’s terrifying. She’s co-dependent with the Joker, and when you see that, you start seeing it as a mental illness.”

Robbie also said that while the film will definitely show the “very cheerful, bubbly” side of Harley’s personality, they also show the dark side of her story, including her obsessive love with the Joker. Hopefully we’ll be able to see Harley break away from the Joker and learn to stand on her own two feet in the film.

In the same article, Suicide Squad producer Charles Roven gave some interesting details on the creatures that Harley and her teammates will be battling. According to Roven, the creatures are called the Eyes of the Adversary: “These are one of the things they encounter. They don’t know how they got here, but they’re weird and dangerous and yet they’re wearing military uniforms.”

It appears that the Eyes of the Adversary aren’t really the villain that the Squad is up against, but rather a type of henchmen doing their master’s bidding. Of course, it’s doubtful that Amanda Waller will give the team all the details on what they’re up against from the start. More likely fans won’t see the real target until part way through the film.
