New reports suggest that Jesse Eisenberg is set to play Lex Luthor in Suicide Squad after finishing up his work in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

While there was a lot of hoopla about Ben Affleck being cast as Batman, there was just as much concern about Jesse Eisenberg playing the bald and physically imposing character, Lex Luthor, in Batman v Superman.

But it seems those concerns are over, as a new report from Deadline suggests that Eisenberg is in talks to join DC’s new film Suicide Squad. David Ayer is directing the film, and recent rumors have Margot Robbie, Will Smith, and Tom Hardy starring.

Suicide Squad is essentially a supervillain film, and Eisenberg joining as Lex Luthor should fit perfectly. Plus this will allow DC to include someone from Batman v Superman that fans will be familiar with since the film’s story is unknown to the average moviegoer.

The report suggests that Jesse is in serious talks with the studio to have a role in the film, and while it’s unknown how big of a role, Lex Luthor should definitely be a large part of Batman v Superman. He’s more of an intellectual villain, who creates problems for Superman, and isn’t someone who would be killed off in one film.

We imagine Eisenberg will become an integral part of the Justice League universe as Lex Luthor. He was a key villain in the original Superman films, and we expect him to be used quite a bit in the future DC films as well. Eisenberg is an excellent actor, and while a unique choice, we expect him to be vital to the franchise.

We’ll keep an eye on these reports, but for now we fully expect to see Lex Luthor in Suicide Squad when it hits theaters August 5, 2016.
